The IDC story
In 2021, John Hanson cofounded ‘smartchain’, using blockchain technology to enable self-executing smart contracts to automate the payment workflow for upstream vendor contracts.
This approach worked particularly well for data-driven outcomes-based contracts and It was recognised very early in the piece that the validity of a smart contract is entirely dependent on the quality of the inputs that drive execution, particularly in the case of drilling performance and data quality contracts.
Accordingly, John established IDC (Independent Data Certification) in 2023 to address the specific data quality needs of contract automation and execution and the more general need for a verified and visible workflow to certify drilling data quality from sensor to repository. This in turn required the development of a field-ready application – CertifAI – to capture and certify sensor verifications, RT data quality metrics and operational adherence procedures.
To realise this vision, IDC joined forces with Dax Group to build and deliver CertifAI on their proprietary Rapid Application Development platform ‘radax’. Dax Group combines industry-leading expertise with the latest technologies to deliver solutions that move businesses forward, empowering us to thrive in today’s digital-first world.
John was recently joined by Marcos Allen – a 30 year veteran in the oil and gas industry, with multiple senior marine and mechanical management roles with various rig engineering projects, including new builds, conversions, reactivations, and upgrades. Marcos also holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) specializing in Carbon and Project Management, all of which ensures that CertifAI meets the specific needs of our operator and drilling contractor clients.
